Cash over land in Thakurgaon leaves one dead

A man was killed and 15 others were injured in a clash between two groups of people over a land at Molani village in Haripur upazila on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Shahjahan Ali, 45, of Ansardangi village in Ranishankoil upazila.

Police said Majibur Rahman of Haripur upazila and Nuh Morol of Ansardangi village in Ranishankoil upazila had long been at loggerheads over a piece of land.

As a sequel to the enmity, an altercation between the supporters of the two groups broke out over harvesting paddy from the disputed land at Molani village in the morning.

At one stage, both groups attacked each other, leaving 16 people injured.

Of the injured, seven were taken to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Shahjahan, a supporter of Nuh Morol, to death.
