Rabada takes five as South Africa seal victory

Paceman Kagiso Rabada took 5-92 as South Africa completed an emphatic 177-run victory over Australia in the first Test at the WACA on Monday after dismissing the hosts for 361 just before tea on the final day.

The tourists claimed a third successive victory at the WACA after 2008 and 2012 triumphs and a 1-0 lead in the series, which continues in Hobart on Saturday and concludes with a day-nighter at Adelaide Oval.

Australia's batsmen were unable to cope with Rabada's pace and swing as the 21-year-old took his fourth five-wicket haul in his ninth Test, making light of the absence of South Africa's injured pace spearhead Dale Steyn.

South Africa declared on 540-8 after lunch on Sunday, leaving Australia with an imposing 539-run victory target or more realistically almost five sessions to bat out for a draw.

The hosts had looked in a strong position on day two when, having dismissed South Africa for 242, they were 158 without loss before collapsing to 244 all out.

Australia had resumed 169-4 and Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Marsh and Mitchell Starc were dismissed before lunch with Peter Siddle following after the break.

Peter Nevill, who finished on 60 not out, and Josh Hazlewood stalled the march to victory with a dogged partnership of 65 before Australia's number 10 batsman was caught at short cover for 29 to give Temba Bavuma his maiden Test wicket.

Nathan Lyon extended the tail further with a 21-ball eight before he was trapped in front by debutant spinner Keshav Maharaj to conclude the match.

Khawaja had provided the most spirited resistance for much of the innings and after he fell lbw to JP Duminy's part-time spin three runs shy of his fifth Test century, Australia's already tough task looked all but impossible.

Rabada accounted for Mitchell Marsh (26) and Starc (13), both lbw, to take his match tally to seven wickets.

IFrame
Bavuma, whose brilliant run out accounted for opener David Warner on Sunday, almost claimed another key victim with his first delivery in Test cricket.

Khawaja, on 84, was plumb lbw after the ball hit a crack and thudded into his front pad but the 26-year-old had overstepped the mark and umpire Nigel Llong called a no-ball.

Lefthander Khawaja had started the morning on 58 and continued to display the same grit and determination that got him through to the close on day four, hitting 11 fours and three sixes in his 182-ball knock.

Duminy's first delivery skidded into Khawaja's back pad, however, and the 29-year-old became the second Australian batsman to perish on 97 after Warner in the first innings, the wicket that triggered the collapse.

Bangladesh among Asian countries with less forest area

Bangladesh is among the countries with least forest whereas Laos with 92.1 percentage of forest area is on the top of all in Asia.

Bangladesh having 11.2 percent of forest areas of the total area of the country is among India, Mongolia and Pakistan with the least forest, according to the data of Asian Development Bank, 2016.

Bhutan (81.5), Brunei (79.7) and South Korea (63.7) are also among those Asian countries which have a leading forest area. Malaysia and Indonesia have also a good share of forest land.

India’s forest cover is only 24.1 percent of the total land area, even though in terms of total forest area that’s significantly higher than many other Asian countries.

Pakistan, on the other hand, fares poorly in terms of total forest area. The country has merely 1.9 percent of its land area under forest cover.

According to the Food and Agricultural Organisation, the country lost 840,000 hectare of forest cover between 1990 and 2010 and the rate of loss of forests is 42,000 ha per year.

In terms of numbers, China, Indonesia, and Malaysia make up more than half of the forested lands in Asia, as per the Asian Development Bank 2016 data. China’s forest cover remains 24.8 percent of the country’s land area, Indonesia’s is 62.7 percent and Malaysia has 67.6 percent.

While China is a major exporter of wood products, ranking first globally in wood-based panel production, Indonesia and Malaysia are top producers of tropical timbers.

Globally, forests cover 30 percent of the total land area, according to the latest report from Global Forest Resources Assessment 2005, led by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.

However, the world is still losing an area of forest equivalent to the total area of Bhutan, Fiji and Brunei Darussalam combined each year -- or 200 km sq per day, as per the report.

Overall, Asia and the Pacific have lost around 10 million hectares of forest between 1990 and 2005 or 1.1 percent over 15 years, as per the latest data available.

SC upset for not finalising rules for judicial officers

The Supreme Court today expressed dissatisfaction on the government as it did not finalise rules determining disciplines for lower court judges as per the apex court’s guideline.

The judiciary has been held captive as it cannot take any step if any judicial officer commits any anomaly, the apex court told Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.

A nine-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha said this while hearing the Masdar Hossain case, popularly known as judiciary separation case.

During the hearing, the attorney general submitted a petition seeking time for finalising the rules determining the disciplines for judicial officers.

Earlier the government framed the rules according to the SC order. Later the apex court corrected the rules in line with its guideline in the Masdar Hossain case verdict.

On August 28, the appellate division ordered the government to finalise the rules and issue a gazette notification to the effect by November 6.

Today, the SC told Attorney General Alam that the law ministry took over the president’s power of controlling the lower court judges through the rules of dismissal.

The judiciary has been going beyond Supreme Court’s control, the SC said.

The apex court asked: “How did an additional district judge dare to send a letter to the president for impeachment of the chief justice?”

The apex court later ordered the government to finalise the rules and issue the gazette notification by November 24.

Joy opines in NYT asking US to extradite Mujib killer

In an opinion write-up in The New York Times, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, grandson of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, opined that his grandfather’s killer should be extradited from the US.

Joy in his opinion piece published in one of the leading US newspapers on November 7, 2016 expressed doubt over the refugee status of one of Bangabandhu’s killers Rashed Chowdhury.

“To the best of our knowledge, Chowdhury has not been granted refugee status; therefore, he is not immune from extradition proceedings. There are no grounds for further delay in extraditing him. The United States should respond to Bangladesh’s repeated pleas to conclude the matter, so that justice may be done,” he wrote in an opinion piece in one of the leading US newspapers, The New York Times.

On August 15, 1975, the democratically elected government of Bangladesh was overthrown by a military coup. Soldiers stormed the Dhaka residence of the president, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, shot and killed him, along with 18 other members of his family including his wife and three sons.

Sheikh Hasina, the current prime minister of Bangladesh, and her sister were spared only because they were in Germany.

Donkey, Elephants: Mystery of US election symbols solved!

Have you ever wondered about the symbols of two of the major parties fighting in the US presidential elections? It is one of the most frequently asked questions that anyone observing US elections has.

According to a CNN report the arrival of elephants and donkeys to depict the republicans and democrats respectively were first seen in the mainstream media back in 1874, when cartoonist Thomas Nast used an elephant to depict the Republican vote in his drawing "The Third-Term Panic."

In the drawing, an "ass" -- depicting the New York Herald -- scares away other animals in a forest as the elephant -- or the Republican vote -- looks like it's about to stumble into a pit.

The cartoon was published in Harper's Weekly after the owner of the New York Herald reportedly criticized the notion of Republican President Ulysses S Grant running for a third term.

Grant did not end up running in the next election.

However, that cartoon isn't where the Democratic donkey originally came from.

In 1828, Democrat Andrew Jackson's critics called him a "jackass" because of his populist views and his slogan, "Let the people rule." Jackson decided to run with it -- even using images of a donkey in his campaign ads.

Later, in keeping with this line of thought, Nast also used a donkey to depict the Democratic Party in that cartoon, according to a report in CNN.

And, from then on the party and the popular media both took on the use of these two symbols. But with time the impressions associated with the symbols have evolved.

Springsteen urges 'right side of history' in Clinton rally

Rock legend Bruce Springsteen urged voters to choose Hillary Clinton and an inclusive vision of America as he warmed up a massive election eve rally in Philadelphia.

"Let's all do our part so we can look back on 2016 and say we stood with Hillary Clinton on the right side of history," Springsteen told a 40,000-strong crowd before Independence Hall.

Springsteen, whose music has long championed working-class Americans, denounced Republican candidate Donald Trump as "a man whose vision is limited to little beyond himself."

Trump holds a "profound lack of decency that would allow him to prioritize his own interests and ego before American democracy itself," Springsteen said.

"Tomorrow, those ideas and that campaign is going down," said Springsteen said to cheers.

Springsteen, praising Clinton's record on issues from immigration to climate change to income inequality, said she had "an actual vision of an America where everyone counts" regardless of background.

Springsteen, who took the stage from fellow New Jersey rocker Jon Bon Jovi, was playing the largest rally in Clinton's campaign, which also featured President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

Singing alone with his acoustic guitar, Springsteen played his hit "Dancing in the Dark" and opened with "Thunder Road," a story of struggling Americans that closes with the line, "I'm pulling out of here to win."

Springsteen -- whose vast fan base includes New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a close adviser to Trump -- had once avoided overt politics but has campaigned for Democratic presidential candidates since 2004.

He is one of a slew of top musicians to have rallied behind Clinton. Others include Beyonce, Jay Z, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Madonna and Stevie Wonder.

BPL Football: Sunday’s hat-trick mauls Soccer Club

Dhaka Abahani’s Nigerian forward Sunday Chizoba made the first hat-trick of the ongoing JB Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football to guide his team to a comfortable 5-1 goals victory over Soccer Club, Feni at Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Monday.

With the day’s feat, Dhaka Abahani further consolidated their lead in the league table securing 29 points from 13 matches while Soccer Club remained at nine points playing 13 matches.

Apart from Sunday’s hat-trick featuring three goals, Jewel Rana and Saad netted one goal each for the sky-blue popular Dhanmondi outfit Abahani while Felix scored the consolation for Soccer Club.

In the day’s match, winger Jewel Rana opened the floodgate for Abahani in the 18th minute after taking the advantage of a faulty clearance by opponent defender and fired the net by a low shot beating Guinean defender Camara Mamadou (1-0).

Sunday Chizoba doubled the Abahani margin in the 26th minute by flicking the ball past Soccer Club goalie Sujan Chowdhury off a low cut from Lee Tuck (2-0).

Striker Sunday scored his 2nd and the 3rd goal for Abahani in the 54th minute following a spot kick (3-0). Abahani were awarded the spot kick when Camara Mamadou of Soccer Club fouled onrushing Jewel Rana in the danger zone.

Sunday’s spot kick was fisted by a diving Sujan that came to Sunday again via Jewel Rana. And finally Sunday pushed the ball home (3-0).

Nigerian midfielder Uche Felix reduced the margin for Soccer Club in the 58th minute by a low shot from the middle of the box (3-1).

Sunday completed his hat-trick in the 62nd minute, utilising a through pass of Emon Babu (4-1).

In the 88th minute, substitute midfielder Saad Uddin netted the 5th fifth goal for Abahani by a cracking right footer from the right edge of the box (5-1).

Judge accepts charges against Neymar over Barcelona transfer

Neymar could be back in court, this time on corruption charges.

A Spanish judge on Monday accepted charges against Neymar for irregularities regarding his transfer to Barcelona, opening the way for a trial involving the Brazilian forward and his parents.

Barcelona club president Josep Maria Bartomeu and former president Sandro Rosell are also set to stand trial after a complaint brought by Brazilian investment group DIS, which was entitled to 40 percent of Neymar's transfer from Brazilian club Santos in 2013 but said it received a smaller compensation because part of the transfer fee was concealed.

Fraud charges were accepted against Barcelona, Santos and a former president of the Brazilian club.

With Monday's ruling by National Court judge Jose de la Mata, prosecutors will have 10 days to formalize their request for a trial.

The ruling was expected after prosecutors won an appeal to keep the case alive two months ago. De la Mata had shelved the complaint by DIS earlier this year, but a group of judges ruled that there was enough evidence to reopen the case.

Neymar and his father, who acts as the player's agent, appeared in a Madrid court in February to defend themselves. All other parties being accused by prosecutors also have denied wrongdoing.

In June, Barcelona paid a fine of 5.5 million euros ($6.1 million) to settle a separate case brought by Spain's tax authorities. In that agreement, the club acknowledged it made "an error in the fiscal planning of the player's transfer."

Barcelona said the price of Neymar's transfer was 57.1 million euros ($63.6 million), with Santos receiving 17.1 million euros ($19 million). Prosecutors said the total amount paid by the Spanish club to Santos was 25.1 million euros ($27.9 million), meaning DIS would be entitled to an additional 3.2 million euros ($3.5 million).

Prosecutors said the difference comes from payments made by Barcelona for the future acquisitions of other players, as well as partnerships for friendly matches between the clubs.

According to court documents, DIS paid 5 million reals (1.4 million euros; $1.5 million) for its 40 percent of Neymar's rights in 2009.

Now No. 1, Murray goes to London vying for Djokovic's title

Having taken Novak Djokovic's No. 1 ranking and his Paris Masters title, Andy Murray will try to grab another of his friend and rival's crowns at the ATP finals.

Murray has never won the season-ending tournament, but heads to London full of confidence after winning the Paris Masters on Sunday.

"The last few years I haven't played so well (at the ATP finals)," Murray said. "I do think playing in front of a home crowd helps. It makes a difference, so hopefully I'll be able to perform a bit better this year."

Murray did not need home supporters in Paris, beating big-serving American John Isner 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-4. He has won his past four tournaments and a career high eight this year.

This win was challenging — Isner missed six break-point chances — and it came the day after Murray ensured he'd became world No. 1. The official rankings are published on Monday.

The 29-year-old Murray has three Grand Slam titles, two Olympic gold medals, a Davis Cup title and now — finally — the top ranking for the first time.

"No one would have expected what I have done the last few months," Murray said. "I don't really know if it's sunk in or not."

Three big titles he has yet to win are still held by Djokovic: the ATP finals, the Australian Open and the French Open.

Djokovic and Roger Federer have won the finals 11 times between them since 2003, with Djokovic winning it for the past four years.

This year, Djokovic beat Murray in Grand Slam finals at the Australian Open in three sets and at Roland Garros in four.

Murray has been a runner-up eight times in majors, with five of those in Australia.

"I'd love to win the Australian Open ... It's the next major goal, because I have been close a number of times," Murray said. "I have never quite done it."

But he needs to finish off 2016, first. Murray will be the favorite when the finals begin next Sunday. He is the only British player to hold the top spot since the rankings began in 1973, and the oldest first-time No. 1 since John Newcombe at 30 in 1974.

Murray secured top spot after Milos Raonic withdrew from their semifinal on Saturday. That sent Murray through to the final and, coupled with Djokovic's quarterfinal loss, ensured enough points.

Murray reached No. 2 for the first time more than seven years ago, and his career has been all about chasing the stars of tennis.

Djokovic has 12 Grand Slam titles, Rafael Nadal has 14, and Federer is all-time leader with 17.

"Put him in any other era, he probably has more Grand Slams," Isner said of Murray.

Murray has been playing those three his whole career — and also more recently world No. 3 Stan Wawrinka — and it shows in the statistics.

Djokovic, who is one week younger than Murray, leads him 24-10; Nadal leads Murray by 17-7; and Federer's up 14-11.

That, along with some back surgery, helps explain why Murray has won fewer titles than his main rivals.

Sunday's win was his 43rd — of which 14 are Masters.

Impressive enough, but way behind the other three.

Federer, six years older than Murray, has 88 titles (24 in Masters), Nadal has 69 (28 in Masters) and Djokovic 66 (a record 30 in Masters).

With Nadal struggling with injuries and Federer aging, it could Murray's time to shine.

"He's at the top of the game right now," Isner said, "and he's going to give himself plenty more opportunity to win these big tournaments."

Australia expects to resettle hundreds of refugees elsewhere

An Australian minister says his government will find a country to resettle hundreds of asylum seekers held on poor Pacific islands.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton on Tuesday declined to identify countries with which Australia is negotiating to accept almost 1,300 asylum seekers from Africa, the Middle East and Asia who now live at Australia's expense in camps at Nauru and Papua New Guinea.

The Australian newspaper reported last week that the United States and Canada could be among the countries that will accept Australia's asylum seekers.

Few refugees have accepted offers to resettle in Papua New Guinea and Cambodia because most hope that Australia will eventually take them in.

Australia refuses to resettle any refuge who has arrived by boat since it announced the tough policy in 2013.

Madonna plays surprise concert in park for Hillary Clinton

Madonna belted out some of her biggest hits on Monday night as she treated people in the city to a surprise outdoor concert in support of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

About 300 people jammed into Washington Square Park, in the heart of Manhattan, to watch the pop singer perform "Express Yourself," ''Don't Tell Me," ''Imagine," ''Like a Prayer" and "If I Had a Hammer" while they sang along.

Madonna opened the 30-minute performance by urging the crowd to vote on Tuesday.

"This is a concert that is about unifying us, and it's about keeping America great, not making America great again," Madonna said. "Tomorrow we're going to keep America great. We're going to elect a president that does not discriminate."

As she finished the concert, she again urged the growing crowd to go to the polls and vote for Clinton.

"New York! Tomorrow is the big day. Are you listening?" She said. "Do we want Donald trump to be president?"

"No!" the crowd roared back.

"Do we need Hillary Clinton?"

"Yes!"

Some in the crowd were just as excited to vote for Clinton as they were to see a Madonna performance.

"It's really exciting the enthusiasm to elect the first woman president, to elect a president who will fight for LGBT rights, fight for women's rights and to move America forward," said Zach Baum, a 23-year-old from Long Island. "It's really a choice about who we are as a nation."

For Sara Bellis, a 34-year-old stay-at-home mom from the Bronx who wore a yellow "Hillary" pin, the election of Clinton has been a long time coming.

"I've been a Hillary fan since I was in elementary school," Bellis said. "Now I have three kids, and I think far and away she has the best chance of creating the kind of world I want them to have."

With just hours before Election Day, Clinton and Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, continued to crisscross the battleground states in an effort to secure every last vote.

Prosecutors raid Samsung office in SKorean political scandal

South Korean prosecutors have raided the Seoul office of Samsung Electronics in connection with a snowballing influence-peddling scandal involving President Park Geun-hye's longtime confidante.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office says Tuesday's raid was part of investigation into the scandal centering on how much Park's friend Choi Soon-sil meddled in state affairs though she doesn't have any government job.

The prosecutors' office gave no further details. Yonhap news agency says the raid was related to a suspicion that Samsung gave Choi's daughter illicit financial help.

Park visited National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun on Monday to discuss how to defuse a political crisis triggered by the scandal. The results of their meeting weren't immediately known.

Tens of thousands of people rallied in Seoul on Saturday, demanding Park's removal from office.

Iraqi Kurdish forces advance as mass grave found near Mosul

Iraqi Kurdish fighters exchanged heavy fire with militants on Monday as they entered a town held by the Islamic State group east of Mosul, while troops advancing south of the city discovered a mass grave containing some 100 decapitated bodies.

The offensive to reclaim the town of Bashiqa is part of the broader push to drive IS out of Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, relieving those living under its occupation from the type of brutality, such as mass killings, that the group has committed.

IS militants have carried out a series of massacres since seizing large swaths of southern and central Iraq in the summer of 2014, often documenting them with photos and videos circulated online. On Monday, Iraqi soldiers advancing into the town of Hamam al-Alil, south of Mosul, discovered a pit containing dozens of decapitated skeletal remains, the military's Joint Military Command said.

The offensive to retake Bashiqa began at dawn with a Kurdish barrage of heavy artillery, Katyusha rockets and mortar rounds slamming into IS positions, providing cover for the advance of armored columns.

Smoke rose from the town throughout the day, with large explosions sending dark clouds into the sky.

"We have the coordinates of their bases and tunnels, and we are targeting them from here in order to weaken them so that our forces can reach their targets more easily," said Iraqi Kurdish commander Brig. Gen. Iskander Khalil Gardi.

Bashiqa, which is believed to be largely deserted except for dozens of IS fighters, is located about 13 kilometers (eight miles) northeast of Mosul's outskirts and about 20 kilometers (13 miles) from the city center. Iraqi government and Kurdish forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and joined by government-sanctioned militias, are fighting to drive IS out of those surrounding areas and open additional fronts to attack Mosul itself.

Bashiqa has been surrounded by Kurdish forces, known as peshmerga, for weeks but Monday's push appeared to be the most serious yet to drive IS from the town.

Kurdish forces launched mortar rounds and fired heavy artillery into the town Sunday in advance of the offensive. More artillery and air strikes hit the town early Monday as the Kurdish forces' advance got underway.

On Mosul's southern front, meanwhile, Iraqi soldiers advancing into Hamam al-Alil, some 12 miles (20 kilometers) from the city center, discovered a mass grave late Monday containing some 100 decapitated bodies near the town's agricultural college. Most were reduced to skeletons, said Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasool, the spokesman for the Joint Military Command.

He said a forensics team from Baghdad would investigate the site on Tuesday.

Earlier Monday, army spokesman Brig. Firas Bashar said Iraqi forces had retaken the town and images broadcast by the Lebanon-based Al-Mayadeen network showed soldiers hoisting the Iraqi flag on a rooftop in the town. Other reports, however, said fighting still continued and that IS fighters remained in several areas.

Iraqi special forces entered Mosul last week and have made some progress in gaining a foothold on the city's eastern edges. But progress inside the city has been slowed as troops push into more densely populated areas.

The troops are suffering casualties as the militants target them with suicide car bombs and booby traps in close-quarters fighting along the city's narrow streets. IS still holds territory to the north, south and west of Mosul, its last major urban stronghold in Iraq.

In neighboring Syria, meanwhile, Kurdish-led Syrian fighters pushed ahead Monday with an offensive aimed at isolating and encircling the Islamic State group's de facto capital of Raqqa, making small advances in villages to the north of the city. U.S.-led coalition warplanes provided air cover for the long-awaited campaign to liberate the city, which began Sunday.

Both battles are likely to be long and costly as the extremists are expected to fight until the end to try to hold onto their biggest urban strongholds in both countries.

Civilians were fleeing Mosul in growing numbers as Iraqi forces struggle to solidify gains in neighborhoods in the eastern part of the city, said special forces Lt. Col. Hussein Aziz.

"Daesh is trying to draw a line," Aziz said of the heavy fighting in Mosul's easternmost neighborhoods, referring to the militant group by its Arabic acronym. "They have a lot of fighters there and they forced families to stay."

Aziz was manning a checkpoint on the edge of Gogjali, Mosul's easternmost neighborhood, where civilians fleeing Mosul are screened to catch any IS fighters who may be hiding among them. Since Iraqi forces first pushed into the eastern edge of the city last Tuesday, Aziz's team has arrested dozens of people.

At the checkpoint, men were waiting for their names to be screened by a pair of informants from the area and multiple Iraqi government databases. Women and children waited further back in the shade of an abandoned building.

Gayda, a 42-year-old Mosul resident, said she fled the Samah neighborhood in the city's east just hours earlier, after a car bomb exploded next to her home. She gave only her first name, fearing for her safety and that of family members still under IS rule in other parts of Mosul.

When they reached the checkpoint, the woman's husband and son were separated from her and her daughter, and held for questioning a few yards (meters) away.

"How can he be from Daesh, he's so young," she said of her 18-year-old son. "We are good people, we don't have any enemies."

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization said it has set up 82 "rapid response teams" to manage risks of epidemics, chemical exposure and other health worries among people fleeing Mosul.

The U.N. agency said water and sanitation in camps for the displaced could face disruptions as the number of people fleeing the city grows, raising the risk of food- and water-borne diseases such as cholera. It also said that additional concerns include children who reportedly haven't been immunized since the radical Islamic State group seized control of Mosul in June 2014.

US candidates hold final rallies before election day

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have been criss-crossing America in a final push for votes before election day, reports BBC.

Both have been holding rallies in the battleground states of North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Mrs Clinton urged voters to back a "hopeful, inclusive, big-hearted America" while Mr Trump told supporters they had a "magnificent chance to beat the corrupt system".

Polls give Democrat Mrs Clinton a four-point lead over Republican Mr Trump.

A record number of Americans - at least 44.9m - have voted early by post or at polling stations.

There are signs of a high turnout among Hispanic voters, which is believed to favour Mrs Clinton.

It follows a bitter campaign during which the candidates have traded insults and become mired in a series of scandals.

At a star-studded event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mrs Clinton was joined on stage by celebrities Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi.

Her final campaign stop is a midnight "get out the vote" event in Raleigh, North Carolina. with is due to feature Lady Gaga.

Earlier she said in a radio interview that if she won she would call Mr Trump and hoped he would play a "constructive role" in helping to bring the country together.

At his rally in Scranton in the same state, Mr Trump insisted the momentum was with his campaign.

His final event is a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

He had earlier told supporters in Florida that he was "not a politician" and that they were his "only special interest".

The businessmen described Mrs Clinton as the "most corrupt person ever to seek the presidency", referring to an FBI investigation into Mrs Clinton's use of a private email server while she was serving as secretary of state between 2009 and 2013.

On Sunday Mrs Clinton's campaign received a boost when the FBI said newly discovered emails sent by an aide showed no evidence of criminality.

Meanwhile Mr Trump's campaign manager Kellyanne Conway sought to allay international anxiety about the Republican candidate in a BBC interview on Monday.

She said criticism from abroad "does not reflect why Donald Trump is running and who he would be on the global stage".

French President Francois Hollande has said the billionaire made him "want to retch".

It follows a series of sex assault allegations made against Mr Trump, which he denies, and the emergence of a recording of him making obscene remarks about women.

Mr Trump has also been accused of stoking xenophobic sentiment after vowing to ban Muslims from entering the US, describing Mexicans as "rapists" and saying he would build a wall along the US southern border to stop illegal immigration.

BMCCI for urgent shipping links, formal banking with Myanmar

Bangladesh needs to demonstrate a strong drive in making coastal shipping line operational with Myanmar and establishing banking facilities there to tap the huge business potential offered by the Southeast Asian nation, said a bilateral trade body.

“We need formal transaction channel and direct shipping connectivity with Myanmar urgently. This is the right time to settle these,” President of Bangladesh-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) SM Nurul Hoque told reporters on Monday at a city hotel.

Connectivity, especially coastal shipping line operations and establishing formal banking channel in Myanmar, should be given priority during the two-day 8th joint trade commission meeting between Bangladesh and Myanmar to be held here on November 9-10, he said.

“The trade relations between Bangladesh and Myanmar will reach new heights once the coastal shipping line is launched,” Nurul Hoque said.

BMCCI Executive Director M Musleh Uz Zaman said the other countries which are far away from Myanmar compared to Bangladesh are doing good business with Myanmar but Bangladesh, being a close neighbour is yet to utilise the opportunity.

“We can do very good business with Myanmar. We just need to address the issues with priority basis. I think it is the right time to give a big push,” he added.

The coastal shipping line between the two countries was supposed to be made operational much earlier but remains pending for long.

A coastal shipping line will help Bangladesh send goods, including readymade garment items, to Myanmar directly. Now Myanmar's customers buy garment items made in Bangladesh from Thailand, according to BMCCI.

“A draft standard operating procedure, or SOP has already been finalized,” Zaman said mentioning that approval of long overdue coastal shipping line operation should be given highest priority in the joint commission meeting.

Responding to a question, BMCCI President Nurul Hoque said there should be “coordinated” efforts from the relevant ministries to put required facilities in place for smooth business operation between the two countries. “We also need some confidence building measures.”

He said Myanmar is the current chair of Asian Clearing Union (ACU) which is a payment arrangement whereby the participants settle payments for intra-regional transactions among the participating central banks on a net multilateral basis.

“This is the right time to formalize the payment channel in line with international standard. Few foreign banks have also opened up branches in Myanmar,” Nurul Hoque said.

He said border trade ceiling need to be increased up to a proposed amount of US$ 100000 from the current ceiling of US$ 50,000 until the execution of banking channel transaction.

The BMCCI President said issues related to cultural exchange, agriculture knowledge transfer, investment issues and signing free trade agreement between the two countries can be discussed.

He said Bangladesh can export garment, garment accessories, pharmaceuticals products, electrical and electronic items and building materials to Myanmar.

The BMCCI leaders said garment or industry entrepreneurs can take the advantage of setting up and producing in Myanmar.

There is a huge terrorist flow in Myanmar from around the world and Bangladesh can be added as extended destination for the tourists, Nurul Hoque said adding, “Bangladesh can take the advantage by allowing easy visa and access.”

Bangladesh imports spices, lentil, fish, onion, garlic and ginger from Myanmar at cheaper prices.

Myanmar is rich in wood; once the coastal shipping line agreement is in place, Bangladesh can import wood from this country to meet the demand of the local furniture sector.

At the two-day meeting, the two sides are likely to discuss signing of preferential trading arrangement and ways for smooth trade between the two countries.

A four-member bench led by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order rejecting a leave to appeal filed by state and the authorities of Viqarunnisa Noon School & College.

Earlier on Sunday, the SC fixed today (Monday) to deliver its verdict after concluding the hearing of the leave to appeal filed on August 17.

On June 1 last, the High Court declared two sections of the Governing Body and Managing Committee Regulations 2009 illegal as those allow MPs to lead the managing committees or governing bodies of private schools and colleges.

As per the HC order, no MP will be allowed to hold the post of chairman of the managing committee or the governing body of any private school and college.

After the HC order, Rashed Khan Menon, president of the special committee of Viqarunnisa Noon School & College, and its principal filed a petition seeking a stay order on the HC verdict.

Later, Yunus Ali filed another writ petition with the HC challenging the legality of the sections 5 and 50 of the Governing Body and Managing Committee Regulations 2009.

On April 6, the HC issued another rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the sections will not be declared illegal and contradictory to the constitution.

According to section 5 of the Governing Body and Managing Committee Regulations, 2009, an MP can be the head of the managing committees up to four private schools and colleges, and section 50 empower them to from a special committee in private educational institutions.
